November 13, 2017

Tomorrow is the big "toy day" in PE.  Everyone is so excited.
Our spelling words this week are antonyms and synonyms.  When I give the spelling assessment, I will say the provided antonym/synonym and the student will not only need to know how to spell their words this week, but also know their antonyms and synonyms.  The spelling list was sent home today.  The antonyms/synonyms are listed with the spelling words.
We are still working on adding with double digits and regrouping (carrying).
We are enjoying learning about some of the Greek Myths.  Ask your child to share some of the stories with you.
I am sending the Thanksgiving treats page home today.  If you did not sign up and would like to send something that is just fine.  We really have plenty that people signed up for.   Please send your items on or before Tuesday, Nov. 21 with you student or by 2:30 that afternoon.
Have a happy Thanksgiving with family and friends.

New wood chips have arrived on our playground.  This is to cushion any falls and help children from getting hurt.
We have started chapter 4 in math.  It is adding with regrouping,  we used to call it carrying.
In Social Studies we are learning about some of the Greek Myths.  This is a fun unit.
In spelling we have words with the spellings 'kn' for /n/sound, 'wr' for /r/, 'wh' for /w/, 'qu' for /qu/, and some have the suffixes - ing or - ed.  Your child was given the spelling list to take home and you can find the words  on the right side of this blog.
Thank you to everyone who sent things to make our Witches Brew.  I think everyone enjoyed it.  I did send the recipe home if you want to make it.  I also sent home math chapter 3 test and the spelling test home today.

October is going by fast!  Tomorrow is Halloween.  We are planning our treats for 2:30.  If you signed up to send something please send it tomorrow with your student or have it here be 2:30.  Thank you for helping out with this witch's brew.  Please remember no costumes at school.
We have new spelling words this week.  They are listed on the side of this blog.  They were also sent home today.
We are finishing up our unit on Greek civilizations this week.  We have learned a lot.  Ask your child about Socrates, Aristotle, Plato, or Alexander the Great.  We have learned where the name Marathon came from and many more interesting facts.
We are still working on subtraction and addition using double digits in math.
Have a safe and fun Halloween!

I hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend!  We are right back to work in our class.  Thanks to those who come each week to read with students.  They do look forward to it.
We are still on the Greeks in Social Studies and subtracting in math.  We do have new spelling words this week.
I did send home the Halloween treat list with students.  Look for it in their folders.  If it something you can send early that is fine.  Our party will be around 2:30 next Tuesday on Halloween.  Just a reminder that we do not wear costumes to school.

October 16, 2017

We are learning how to write a book report in our skills area.  The students need to have the title of the book, the main characters, the setting, and the plot.  We are working on this together.  They seem to think it is really fun.
We have no spelling words this week.  Enjoy the break from spelling.
We are still learning about the Greek civilization and the contributions they made to us today.
In math we are working on adding doubles plus one. (2+2=4+1)  Most of the students are catching on.  This is just one method to try and help them add numbers quickly.
Remember there is no school next Monday, October 23.
